Ex Farmers Insurance Employee (FNWL - Farmers New World Life)

FNWL Employee of Farmers Insurance: Fired without clear reason

I realized this may be old news, and I am relieved at this point NOT to be employed with this company, but I do think that people need to be aware of the non-existing integrity of this company. So hear goes my "never too late" story with a recent update.

This happened in October 2006: I was sitting at my desk, finished talking to or was talking to the girl in cubicle next to me. A former supervisor of mine approaches me will call her Big Bertha says come with me we are going to have you go home, also should take purse, mentions other personal affects on chairs, says is this yours, you should take that to. I gather up all my stuff, don’t have a clue what it is regarding and a bit confused as to why I need to gather up all my things.

I am taken to HR, I am standing there in the room Big Bertha then says go in room says Dodo (not real name) is in there (Dodo is office manager and Big Bertha's supervisor). I go in the room, Big Bertha comes in shuts the door and says want to talk to you about a/the spitting incident outside. I am flabbergasted and say what are you talking about, Big Bertha said something, don’t recall what, and I say are you kidding me. Dodo says we just want to know if you recall. Big Bertha than says we won’t talk about that, we’ll talk about the jabbing. Jabbing, Jabbing I said what are you talking about.

She says something to the affect we won’t talk about that and says we have a letter of termination, we are terminating your employment with Farmers, and I’ll walk you to the door. Other than the one contribution from Dodo, Big Bertha, who isn’t my supervisor, was the dominate spokesperson for the brief session, but neither provided any further explanation. I picked up the letter said this is bogus and left.

I read the letter when I got home and it had stated terminated for misconduct. I don’t know what misconduct it was referring to and, was and in writing this, still in a state of shock as to what was said to me and the letter.
I did consult an attorney who advised me to request my personal file. I found out that they had slipped a memo regarding my termination. I never received or was aware of this memo. It was of course unsigned by me, but what else is new, their termination was as bogus as the memo.

Updates: March 2007 Another Update.

Soon, after my "termination" from Farmers New World Life" I got another job, which unfortunately I was let go from, but received a generous severance check. It was something this other company didn't have to do, but they did and I was grateful. I decided then to start an unemployment claim. I of course had to list Farmers New World Life as a previous employer as I had only worked a very short time for the other company. I was very interested in how and what Farmer's explanation might be. Since Farmers had falsely terminated me, had slipped a memo in my file, one I never saw or was aware of and since this State's unemployment agency usually sides with former employers, I already knew the claim wouldn't go far.

About 3 months later after the unemployment offices so called investigation I received their determination. Under the Farmers explanation for my termination they had written that I had acted in an unprofessional manner and there had been witnesses to this behavior. They didn't elaborate on the "unprofessional manner", but then again they wouldn't since the reason for my termination had been a falsehood anyway. As far as witnesses to this behavior that is laughable since what they had terminated me for had never happened.
I don't know if I were to pursue the matter if their lies would constitute fraud. I am considering sending all documentation to the the Attorney Generals Office and to my Senator(s). I am morally ambiguous about pursuing this as I am most grateful that I am NOT working for Farmers and blessed that they for the most part are no longer part of my everyday life and I may just want to keep it that way.

Moderator comment: Thanks for your story. Its a shame that the state didnt want to look into it any further. It seems like you should be able to get them to cough up some real evidence and witnesses in court though. Who knows.. Maybe its just better that you are out of Farmers!
