Letter from a ex-Farmers Employee:
I've read some of the posts from previous CR's and individuals working in Agents Offices and find all of the comments to be on mark with Farmer's unethical ways. I was employed by Farmers for 9 years initially working as a Liability CR. The company was great to work for back in the early 2000's. I was voted Adjuster of the Year 2 years in a row and was proud to be working for Farmers. I later went over to SIU. I always questioned my Managers integrity as he always came across with this "Holier Than Thou" attitude. He would talk down to people and eventually the truth came out in a Team Meeting when he made an announcement that he plays favorites. What kind of Manager does this? People sat there and either, their jaws dropped or they just looked down. It was eveident that there were his "Golden Children" and the undesireables. His mindset was obvious when he would do certain things.
I personally recall when we had a requirement to find an annual referral to the Major Operations Unit. I located one, looked into it being a legitimae referral, which it was. I notified my Manager and advised, I iniated the investigation and would like to refer the claim. He, in turn, gave it to one of his "Golden Children", gave him credit for the referral on his annual review and I got a "Below Expectations" for that portion of my review. This coming from a guy that would fire somebody and then admit, he got rid them because he didn't like the person. I then transferred to a new Manager as they split up the territory. My new Manager was one of my previous Manager's "Golden Children" (figure that one out). This moron was the icing on the cake. He was the shadow of moron #1. I took a week's vacation and prior to going, I received 6 new investigations. I set up investigative plans and documented the files would be updated upon my return. Moron#2 Manager puts notes in all the files that they hadn't been updatd in a week. When I returned I responded to his comments and advised I was on vacation. He immediately called me and said "You didn't go away on vacation!" I said "No, I had company from out of town staying with me". The response I received was "If you don't go away on vacation, I expect you to work". I asked if he was kidding but of course, he wasn't.
I took FMLA due to a medical condition to which my Manager agreed to. I went to Dr's trying to get my condition stabalized. I tried to get back to work after a period of time however, my Manager never responed to my email advising I was prepared to return. After getting tossed around by HR and management, I returned to work 1 month later. I kept my Manager up to date with my condition, advised what medications I was on and what my Dr advised me. He in turn, told me I was lying. I told him if he'd like I could get him medical records. My boss gave me no feedback and my job performance had suffered due to my condition. I asked for some guidance in order to get back on track with no response ever after asking several times. My fat little manager threatened to terminate me if my performance didn't improve. I asked for some guidance again and received no response. I advised my Manager I was making claim under the ADA due to my condition to which he completely ignored. I emailed him again and again as he would never provide a response. A short time later, he terminated me. I spoke with HR and advised them of all of the issues with my Manager (and the previous one as well). She claimed she would address the issues but, I knew that would never happen. I asked if my ADA claim was ever discussed and she advised it was mentioned but, no details or specific information was ever provided. My manager decided he was an MD all of a sudden and could make a medical determination on my condition.
To date, I'm still owed expense money that the company refuses to give me. I had to use my persoanl vehicle for field work as Farmers failed to pay personal property taxes on many of the company vehicles in my state. There was a DMV block on ALL Farmers vehicles and my company vehicle sat in my driveway for over 2 months. Then they refuse to reimburse me for using my personal vehicle. Most everybody (management) that works for this joke of an organization is a half-witted moron that probably got beat up a lot a a kid. They feel they need to to dish out some retribution in their adult life. There is no sense of ethics or professionalism and HR is totally blind as to what goes on. Management can treat employees like they are pieces of trash and the company condones this type of behavior. I have no doubt this company will eventually self-destruct. Although I'm currently looking for a job, I feel relieved that I no longer work in that psych ward of a company. Of course, the EEOC has been notified and an investigation is underway. That won't trouble Farmers though, they're use to people filing suit against them. So, to all you half-witted moron managers out there (you know who you are). I hope all of your unethical ways come back to haunt you in the near future. It's the least that could happen. Farewell, you bunch of scum!!!
