Comment: Close up photos? Have you heard of the concept of zoom? These photos are clearly taken from 20' or more away. You also dont know if a driver or a passenger took the photo. Regardless, the contributor of the photo isnt under scrutiny by this web site, Farmers Insurance is. The purpose of this site is for discussion on topics of the company, what they stand for and their practices. The contributor of this photo isnt driving a Farmers Insurance car, they are driving a personal vehicle that in no way advertises a product or promotes anything.
This employee on the other hand, represents a company and holds a position of what is most likely a claims rep. Both of which are public figures which should promote safety. A company that insures against losses due to many reasons promotes safety on every level for their policy holders. If they dont stand up or adhere to their own preaching's, then as clearly noted here, should be made accountable.
We know Cell Phones are not illegal, and that also wasnt an argument of this article. Generally an object isnt illegal, it is how its used. A car isnt illegal, but running someone down on the street with the intent on killing them is. Owning a brick isnt illegal, but throwing it at someone is. This article did not discuss the legality of the practice of talking on a cell phone while driving. This article was about it being unsafe to do so and someone that should be setting the example was being unsafe. If they lost their job due to this article, then we did them a favor. Maybe they go out and buy a hands-free headset and fix the cause of the problem and learn from the experience. Maybe they go out and find a better job somewhere else. From what we've heard, being a Farmers Claims Rep sucks too!
The 1st amendment affords this website the right to publish and discuss topics in regards to anything it wishes, in this case we choose to keep it on the topic of Farmers Insurance and perhaps we might stray every now and then. In any case, it (the web site) need not be appointed as "morality police" in order to have a right to exercise this right.
