Farmers Insurance Auto Policies

Ever notice your comprehensive and collision deductibles are $750, $1250 or higher?

Its no mistake. Farmers promotes higher deductibles and deductibles that are unconventional. Why?

Reason 1:

Higher Deductibles = Lower claims made

Reason 2:

Unconventional deductibles like $750 and $1250 are created intentionally so that the Farmers Product appears to be more competitive with other companies because you cannot directly compare them to the standard $500 and $1000 deductibles!

Are you saving money though?

No, generally you can find the same policy with another insurance company for the same money or less.

More Info About Your Auto Policy with Farmers Insurance (see below)

Facts:

  • Consumer Reports rated Farmers Insurance ranked near the worst of all insurance companies for auto insurance. They were listed #25 out of 27 companies
  • Farmers Insurance is rated below average on Overall Experience, Claim Settlement, Claim Reps, Claims Process, Procedures, Policy Offerings and Pricing - JD Power

Farmers Auto Insurance options you should know about:

Glass Coverage - Farmers District Managers trains their agents to not mention or suggest glass coverage. Farmers also charges higher than average rates for this policy option to discourage you from adding it.

GAP Coverage - The GAP Coverage rates for Farmers Auto Insurance policies are extremely expensive compared to other options available to you. If you have GAP, you are likely paying enough per year for this option to buy coverage that will last the life of your loan.

Towing Coverage - Farmers Towing and Roadside Assistance. When I was an Agent with Farmers, I heard of several stories from other agents about how bad our Towing and Roadside Assistance was. Customers were reported waiting 4 or more hours on the side of the road before getting help. Others never got any assistance at all! An assistant DM even recommended once that we advice our policy holders to just get AAA.

Claims Services - Farmers Claims Services are ranked very poorly by Consumer Reports and JD Power and Associates. We were instructed to promote our #1 rank in a magazine called Ranking Arizona. I remember getting an email instructing me to vote from each of my email addresses for Farmers. I never knew that the voting system worked like that and the recipient of the standings each voted for themselves!
