Letter from a Farmers Agent:
I negotiated a settlement of my subsidy with Farmers. It amounted to me paying $100 a month, which I have been doing. Sometimes the payment is a few days late, but I have not missed one and only owe $400 and change now. Imagine my surprise to learn I have been put in collection for the full amount, not the negotiated amount today. When I called to talk with my rep, I got in voicemail hell. If you trick the system, by dialing a number a few numbers higher than the posted number, you will get someone to answer as it is routed as a direct call and avoids the main line voicemail hell option. I'm waiting for a return call from my rep now, but am still in shock to have been treated this way.
My only advice is to not join the ranks to begin with. The probability is you will not be successful and if you are, it will take years to get to the point where you make any real money. The much higher probability is you will spend more than you make until you cannot take the pain and loss any longer and Farmers will thank you for creating new business with a bill for the subsidy it hung around your neck. If you are lucky, you might negotiate a settlement. But, even then as learned today, you can still get an alarming collection call that is totally unexpected.
