There seems to be a lot of people here that are bitter because they couldnt cut it. I have been out of the career program for a year and have already met my run to daylight numbers for the entire 4 years. I have a contract value of almost $200,000 and was given about $65,000 in subsidy from Farmers. I will say it hasnt been easy, the district managers are shady used car salesman, they hire too many people but it really comes down to what we make of it. My folio will be close to $300,000 this year and thats not too bad for just a few years in the business!

you people are a bunch of winers!!! Some of what you say is true but not all. I have been an agent for 3.5 years in Houston Texas and have grown my agency to 2000 policies. What seems to be the problem? If you can not handle it get out but dont bad mouth them for your faliures!!!!!!!!!!!!!. If you knew how to work hard and work smart you would be successful.

Thats great that you are making it!
We'd like to mention that the point of the site isnt to tell you that its "Impossible to do well as a Farmers Agent" because frankly, the system is set up for a hand full of agents to reap the benefit of the system.
You also mention that you are 4 years into being an agent. This means that you are not on the current Run to Daylight Program as agents that were brought on since 4/1/05 and 4/1/06. For agents since 4/1/06, they have double the requirements that you did. For instance, you only need 660 P&C and 66 life to waive all your Subsidy Debt, however new agents need 1200 P&C and 100 Life.
Did you also have the Series 6 and 63 requirements to distract you from selling core P&C business? All new agents do!
The key concepts that need to be taken away from this entire site are:
- Yes you can make it as a Farmers Agent but most people will fail and most wont make over 100k a year, most wont be able to get subsidy waived.
- The older programs are better by far than the new one is.
- District Managers blatantly lie about how much new agents will be making, for instance this one that was found today for Colorado: Average Agent Makes 160k/year
The most important thing that this site exists for is to tell new agents that there is a lot of hype and not enough emphasis on the realities of being a Farmers Agent. You will spend between $20-100k trying to get your agency off the ground, no matter how successful you are
**Notice we ignored the overuse of !!!!! As well as the "winers" comment. Mainly because we prefer beer. Wine really isnt that great, its for girls. Weiners or Whiners would have been more effective in this case ;)
***Keep in mind those who are reading this, sometimes DM's write in to this site secretly posing as agents. Read the material and make a decision for yourself on who you think really is telling the truth here!
