I was in the process of looking into becoming a Farmer's Agent and ran across your web site. I'm thankful I did. I'm in need of starting a second career and if I had invested the time and money required with the "support" and "tactics" your web site mentions, it would have put me "under." Thanks for the information.

Survey 6 - Insurance Rate Increases : What's Going On?

This survey will address premium rate increases over the last year and upcomming this year in 2008. We're asking agents to report conditions per state so we can publish a clear picture of what's going on:

(Farmers Agents or Employees Only, Please post accurate data. Add any details you wish such as MCA, individual endorsement types etc or just put the overall % change)

1) What State?

2) Rate increase for Auto (up to 999 chars)?

3) Rate increase for Fire (up to 999 chars)?

4) Retention ratios for Auto, Fire, Life and Commercial (up to 999 chars)?

Notes about Survey 6:

In Arizona we're getting reports that the lapse ratio is running at 22%. Could this be caused by rate increases in 2007? Perhaps! Could this be caused by competitive rate structures of other insurance carriers? Sure!

Could this be caused by Farmers Agents inadequately doing their job?

That could be what the company wants you to think. They'll keep telling you to sell on value and not price. This is the mantra of a company that knows they aren't competitive in the market place and are trying to prey upon people that could be fooled into thinking they are getting a better product for paying "just a little bit" more than they would for Company B.

Should we really believe this? Well lets take a look.

The most recent survey results on JD Power and Associates show:

Overall Experience: 23rd place

Farmers Insurance Group rates in 23rd place of 24 top insurance companies. The only company that rated worse than Farmers was AIG.

Pricing: 23rd place

Farmers Insurance Group again rates in 23rd place of 24 top insurance companies for price. Once again, only better than AIG

If you're selling value, shouldn't you have something of value to sell?

Why did Farmers increase sales requirements and RTD factors by an order of magnitude?

Because they
WANT YOU TO FAIL!

Dont be a Farmers Insurance Agent

Update: Thanks for your emails so far. Most of what I've been getting are questions and thanks for what we are trying to accomplish here and I definitely encourage you to keep those coming.

Dont forget to submit your story!

It doesnt have to be long, if you only want to write a short paragraph and just concur with what we've said here that works just as well. Remember, the stronger our numbers are, the less power they have over us.

Your submissions are important. This site is new and we are looking for stories and experiences of other Farmers Agents, District Managers, Staff, and Employees of the Farmers Insurance Group. Individually we stand alone, together we can all make a difference. With numbers we can change how Farmers does business. We are here to inform and educate new potential agents and current agents on what to look out for in the program. A lot of money can be made in this business and a lot can be lost. We want to help you make an educated decision!
